About Port Askaig Hotel:
The Port Askaig Hotel is a Traditional Inn/Hotel in a picturesque setting on the shore of The Sound of Islay. It is an Ideal base for exploring Islay, Jura and Colonsay.
Situated in its own grounds on the harbour side adjacent to the Caledonian McBrayne Ferry terminal, The Hotel has 11 en suite bedrooms, some with views looking out across the sound of Islay and onto the neighbouring island of Jura. It has a popular Bistro style Restaurant, snug and public bars & a beer garden overlooking the harbour, a perfect location to sample the Hotel’s quality food, much of which is sourced locally, especially seafood fresh from the fishermen you will see working there.
The Hotel is a comfortable, restful retreat to return to following a day of exploring the island. Close by we have 2 of the islands’ renowned Distilleries – Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain, both of which offer daily tours and tastings sessions.
There has been an Inn at Port Askaig for over 400 years. It would have been established in those days as a resting place for drovers taking livestock to market on the mainland. The History is tangible in The Hotel’s ‘Old Port Bar’ which offers a timeless atmosphere combined with a modern selection of local whiskies and Ales, accompanied regularly by live music provided by local musicians.
Islay is rich in History and Heritage and the Hotel enjoys a location nearby Finlaggan, the Ancient Seat of the Lord of the Isles. With a bus stop directly opposite the Hotel the island is accessible to those travelling by foot. Ideally located for those arriving by ferry from Kennacraig, Oban or Colonsay, the Hotel offers a convenient accommodation and dining venue for late night/early morning arrivals and departures. Enjoying its Port side location Port Askaig Hotel offers a warm friendly welcome to day trippers using the ferry services which link Islay to Jura, Colonsay and Oban.

Open All Year Round
The Port Askaig Hotel (and handily adjacent Port Askaig Stores and Filling Station) are open for business 7 days a week from 8.30am (ex Sunday12 noon) until 11pm (shop & fuel) and Hotel for food and coffees from 7.30am daily.
Free parking is available at hotel front in the rear hotel yard and at shop. Please respect that these spaces are for customers ONLY and cannot be used for long stays unless resident.
As well as offering lunches and evening meals – with the fisherman landing their catch just metres away it’s not surprising seafood here is a speciality – the bars are open for drinks including freshly brewed Coffees and Speciality Teas daily from 11am until 11pm inside. Beer garden till late.
