About Bola-na-traigh Self Catering:
Bola-Na-Traigh is a self catering bungalow situated on Craigens, a working farm on the Isle of Islay, with 200 Aberdeen Angus cows 1000 blackface ewes, and is also well known for producing Islay oysters. Based at the head of Loch Gruinart, a tidal estuary, the cottage is well placed for exploring the island, with the RSPB reserve a two minute drive along the road and the newest of Islay’s eight distillery (Kilchoman) roughly 10 minutes away. If you don’t fancy a wee dram, Outback Art Gallery and coffee shop is also only a short drive away. You are also well based for exploring a number of beautiful beaches such as Kilchoman, Saligo, Ardnave and Killinallan, all just a short drive away. Because of its situation at the head of the loch we get a wide variety of wildlife such as deer, sea and golden eagles, corncrakes, hen harriers and even the occasional otter can be seen nearby. But Loch Gruinart is also the main roost on Islay for the thousands of protected geese that invade the island each year.
