Islay Encounters

About Islay Encounters:

Want to discover more about our islands with an expert guide?

Islay Encounters is a wildlife and nature guiding business, based in Port Ellen.

It offers driven safaris, guided walks and bespoke outings. Your guide Tom Dunn has lived on Islay for over 35 years, but many years before he enjoyed holidays here as a budding young naturalist.

He has spent much of his working life on the ruggedly beautiful south coast of Islay employed on a local estate, where his role helped towards, amongst other things, wildlife conservation, habitat, woodland, and deer management.

With its temperate climate, miles of rugged coastline, extensive moorland, fertile farmland and ancient woodland, it is no wonder that the Queen of the Hebrides is one of the most naturally diverse islands on the West coast of Scotland.

Tom can help you make the most of your visit here and discover nature’s treasures whatever the season – whether it is the Barnacle Geese who overwinter here or the many deer who live here all year round. His expertise in the flora and fauna of the islands will ensure you get the most from the great outdoors.
