About The Old Byre:
The Old Byre is a recently converted, self catering cottage tucked in behind our home, An Gleann, on the Isle of Islay. It has been decorated and furnished to a high standard with every home comfort and offers bright and spacious accommodation for 2 people in peaceful rural surroundings.
An Gleann is the home run business of our local Islay tablet and also a small holding with an apiary, free range hens and peacocks. We regularly supply locals and visitors with our tablet, eggs and honey. Our birds are friendly and inquisitive so please be prepared for visitors in the garden and at your door if you choose to stay at The Old Byre!
The Old Byre comfortably sleeps 2 people with a king sized bed in the large, well furnished bedroom.
The traditional panelled bathroom features a roll top bath with an over bath shower.
The bright and sunny kitchen/dining room is divided by a breakfast bar and is fully equipped for cooking and dining. The living room features a log burning stove to relax in front of in the evenings or during stormy weather! A flat screen television, dvd player and lots of books and board games are available for your use. Basic broadband and wifi are supplied.
Heating and hot water are provided by the stove and solar panel with an electric immerser and heaters as back up. The internal porch and hallway provides lots of hanging room for jackets and storage for external footwear.
The Old Byre has its own parking for one car to the side of the house. To the rear of this is a secluded pebbled garden/patio area with picnic bench and sun loungers for guests to relax and enjoy the surroundings in good weather. This is also a fantastic area for stargazing on clear evenings!
Linen, towels, electricity and logs are included in the cost of your stay (please bring your own beach towels if required)
Please note that we cannot accommodate pets due to our free range livestock and smoking is not allowed inside the property. We are unable to offer Electric Vehicle charging from the cottage.
The property is located amid the stunning scenery of the Rhinns of Islay. It lies just off the A847, mid way between Port Charlotte and Portnahaven, and makes an ideal base for the many attractions that the island has to offer.
